Responsible Gaming
For most people, games of chance and gambling are simply a form of entertainment – a way to relax and have fun. But for a small percentage of the population, gaming can have a negative effect on a person’s financial, personal and professional life. Sand Hills Casino offers a number of programs to help prevent excessive gambling.
Customer Awareness
Sand Hills Casino provides on-site display materials to help educate patrons about the risks associated with gambling and where to receive help for problem gambling. These materials include a number of brochures, posters in washrooms, and responsible gaming messages on the scrolling message display of all slot machines. Toll-free helpline numbers are a prominent feature of all our printed materials.
Public Education
Sand Hills Casino is committed to increasing awareness about problem gambling in the surrounding community. Through this website, and through the placement of educational articles in Brandon and rural newspapers, we provide useful information to assist the general public in making responsible decisions and informed choices related to gambling.
Staff Training
Sand Hills Casino provides ongoing staff training focused on recognizing the signs and symptoms of problem gambling and where to refer clients for help. Training is conducted by the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba.
Voluntary Self Exclusion Program
Sand Hills Casino offers customers the opportunity to voluntarily exclude themselves from the premises for a period of one year. If requested by a patron, Sand Hills Casino will exclude that patron from the facility for a period of one year or longer. The patron requesting the ban will be required to sign a consent form agreeing to a one year exclusion from the Casino, must complete a gambling education course, and must have his/her photo taken to allow identification by staff. Individuals applying for voluntary exclusion should also understand the risk of potential arrest if they attempt to enter the Casino while the ban is in place. After a minimum of one year, the patron may apply for re-entry to the casino.
Exclusion from the Casino may only be requested by the patron who would be excluded. An exclusion cannot be requested by a spouse or other person. However, if you are concerned about the gambling activities of someone you know, call the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-463-1554 or 944-6382 (Brandon).
To request a voluntary exclusion from Sand Hills Casino, guests can simply advise any staff member they wish to be excluded. The patron will then be directed to the Shift Manger on duty who will begin the process. Alternately, the patron may phone 1-877-775-8259 and ask to speak to the Shift Manager.
Sand Hills Casino is committed to being a responsible corporate citizen and providing our customers a positive gaming experience. That’s why we say “Bet with your head, not over it.”
